Every family does things differently–celebrates holidays, birthdays, and special events in their own way. We have a few fun family traditions I always look forward to, and one of my favorites just passed this week–our annual neighborhood 3rd of July party.
We live near a golf course and country club that puts on a pretty impressive fireworks display every year on the 3rd of July. Our neighbors host a big family-friendly party that day with a moon bounce and snow cone machine (how fun is that?!?). The kids (and, honestly, many of the adults) wear all red-white-and-blue, we do face paint, and it’s a Big Event. We all look forward to it every year.
Once it gets dark, we, along with most of the neighborhood, make our way out onto the golf course, set up picnic blankets, and enjoy the great fireworks show. I look forward to it every year, and so do my kids. Plus, July 3rd is Matt and my anniversary, so we always know we have a fun party to attend to celebrate our big day!
When I was growing up, my family always went to our good friends’ home right on a lake in Plymouth, MA for the 4th of July. We had a cookout, went swimming, boating, and tubing on the lake, and watched fireworks. Since we don’t live close enough to my hometown to still make it to that party (although my parents and sisters and nephews and niece still go every year), I’m so glad my kids have something equally memorable to do to celebrate each year. I love that they’ll always be able to remember this fun holiday surrounded by friends and neighbors at our own neighborhood fireworks show!
What do you do to celebrate the 4th of July? An annual event or something new every year?
