This has been the coldest winter we’ve had since moving to D.C. almost nine years ago. And now, in this first week of March, we are getting another winter storm bearing up to a foot of snow. I cannot even express in words how bonkers that is for D.C. Last week I noticed daffodils and crocuses popping up in gardens around the neighborhood, but now they’re to be buried under snow and freezing rain. Mother Nature is certainly in an interesting mood.
While I am feeling quite ready for Spring to arrive, I also don’t really mind the snow, so I’m content to sit by the fireplace in my cozy house and struggle through a few more days of my kitchen being draped in dripping snow clothes hanging to dry.
(But next week, I’d really, really like it to be Spring.)
Anytime we have a storm, my first instinct, for whatever reason, is to bake. Today I am planning to make a batch of homemade English muffins. It just seems like the right thing to do.
I’m also trying to figure out how this additional one (or two) snow days off school is going to affect the end of the school year…I’m thinking we are going to be in school until July at this rate.
