Books To Read

One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to read at least one new-to-me book every month this year.  I’ve got a list of books I want to read as long as my arm, but realistically I’m hoping to get through twelve at a minimum.

Here are the books on my list for this year, so far:

I Am Malala (Malala Yousafzai)

Wild (Cheryl Strayed)

The Fault in Our Stars (John Green)

On Hitler’s Mountain (Irmgard A. Hunt)

The Teacher Wars (Dane Goldstein)

The Husband’s Secret (Liane Moriarty)

Wilderness Essays (John Muir)

Number the Stars (Lois Lowry)

Persuasion (Jane Austen)

Snobs (Julian Fellowes)

Magicians of the Gods (Graham Hancock)

Us (David Nicholls)

Some of these are books I feel like I should have read ages ago.  Some of these are  recommendations.  Some of them are books I came across on my own and just thought sounded really interesting.

Have you read any of these?  What did you think?  And please, if you have other recommendations, pass them along!

I’ve not read any of those. I don’t read much non-fiction although i’m getting more interested. Malala’s book might be good – She’s the only “person” i follow on Twitter (other than the current stream of presidential candidates but they wont last on my feed past February).

I love historically accurate fiction, medieval, WWI, WWII, Ken Follett is my current fave but i’ve pretty much caught up with him. His book makes me learn while having fun. I actually recommend Pillars of the Earth if you haven’t read it. It is all about the start of when all those beautiful castles and churches in Europe were built. Especially in UK.

They did a mini series but i couldn’t watch it, it did not do the books justice. Also, he starts with action very quickly so you are immediately sucked in.

I’ll probably scan through your book list to see what they are about. . .

    I want to read Wild.

I feel like i might have read or started to read “MY husband’s secret”. Maybe a piece of it was in a magazine(?). I thought it sounded like a better story than how it read though.

I liked “The Husband”s Secret”. “Number the Stars” is a book we read in fifth grade and it’s great. We watch the movie “Miracle at Midnight” after reading the book because it’s so similar. If you like Lois Lowry you have to read “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”. It’s my all time favorite and such a beautiful book! I’m reading Ken Follet’s new trilogy. I loved the first one “Fall of Giants”. I just bought the other two but they are very long books and I might have to wait for summer to start those.
